Everyone is very welcome to all the worship at St Barnabas. If you’re looking for a new church, or haven’t been to church for ages do come along and give it a try – we hope there is something to suit everyone.
Our main Sunday Worship is at 10am every week.
Sunday at 8am
This is a weekly communion service for those bright and keen in the early morning. There aren’t any hymns – it’s a quiet, thoughtful service, using the 2000 Common Worship liturgy. There is a short sermon on the Bible readings of the day and prayers for our community and our world. Occasionally, we have proper coffee and toast together after worship.
Sunday at 10am
This is our main service of the week, when we gather as a church family of all ages to worship together and share communion. We worship God with a variety of music, some led on the organ, some by our music group. The preaching is an important part of the service as we focus on the Bible readings for the day, and learn together. There are groups for the children in the rooms at the back of the church where they have their own Bible teaching and prayer time. We have coffee together after, and there’s the opportunity for prayer ministry after the service. The service lasts about an hour and a quarter. The 3rd Sunday of the month is different….
Family Praise
Family Praise takes place on the Third Sunday of each month at 10 am.
This is a varied and informal time of worship, when all ages come to together to explore Bible stories, pray together, sing both traditional hymns and modern songs, and celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. We collect food for Gloucester Food Bank so bring along some tins, jars, pasta if you can. Check out the link, to find if there is anything specific that the Food Bank is short of.
Link to the Food Bank.
For those who wish to receive communion, there’s a quiet service at 11.30am after we have shared some refreshments together.
Evening Worship
An informal evening service is held on the 1st Sunday of each month at 5.30 pm beginning with coffee and fellowship. Worship is contemporary, led by the music group or the youth band. There is always a time of teaching/bible study, a prayer activity or reflection. This year we are exploring what it means to live life together as followers of Jesus. There is no Informal Worship in August.
A more traditional Evensong is held on the 4th Sunday of each month at 6pm (4pm in the Winter), with well known hymns and a short sermon. This is alternated with Iona/Taize style meditative worship or a simple said service of Evening Prayer.
